("kata kerja" atau lebih tepatnya kata benda bentuk ing yang digunakan dalam kalimat adalah paralel, yaitu menggunakan bentuk Verb-ing)To learn English and to live longer are my lifetime ambition. ("kata kerja" atau lebih tepatnya subjek yang digunakan dalam kalimat adalah paralel, yaitu menggunakan bentuk To-infinitive)

     Apabila kita melihat struktur kalimat soal nomor 1, sebenarnya merupakan bentuk singkat dari kalimat berikut ini.

     Kalimat di atas terdiri dari 3 klausa, yaitu:

When merupakan salah satu jenis konjungsi. Ingat! Konjungsi/Kata penghubung adalah salah satu kelompok kelas kata dalam Bahasa Inggris; digunakan untuk menghubungkan beberapa kata, frasa, dan klausa menjadi satu kalimat.

     Kalimat di soal nomor 2 terdiri atas 2 klausa, yaitu:

Karena di kalimat soal nomor 2 kata when berfungsi sebagai konjungsi, maka struktur yang digunakan oleh kalimat soal nomor 2 adalah struktur kalimat tanya tidak langsung.

NOMOR 3 ↓

Terdapat dua Relative Pronouns yang artinya sama, yaitu which dan that. Yang berbeda dari kedua kata itu adalah cara menggunakannya.

     Which digunakan untuk memberi karakteristik/sifat tambahan pada subjek/objek. Sementara itu, That digunakan untuk memberi batasan karakteristik/sifat pada subjek/objek. Misalnya:

The big house, which is actually not that big, is mine. [Rumah besar itu, yang sebenarnya ga besar-besar amat, adalah milikku]The big house that is actually not that big is mine. [Rumah besar yang sebenarnya ga besar-besar amat itu adalah milikku]

     Sering sekali apabila digunakan untuk memberi tambahan karakteristik/sifat pada subjek, kata which beserta kata seterusnya diletakkan dalam tempat yang dibatasi oleh dua koma. Strukturnya seperti berikut ini.

Subject, which ...., + Verb

atau

Object, which ...., + Clause

     Dalam kalimat di soal nomor 3, yaitu place on New Year's Day diletakkan dalam tempat yang dibatasi oleh dua koma; merupakan tambahan karakteristik/sifat pada subjek The Rose Bowl.

     Oleh karena itu, kita dapat mengambil kesimpulan bahwa kata yang tepat untuk mengisi titik-titik di soal haruslah mengandung kata which. Dengan demikian, jawaban yang tepat adalah pilihan jawaban C.
